8:41 PM35m agoCrimePalmdalePossible Vehicle Break-In Attempts – Palmdale Neighborhood Early this morning, August 13,……around 2–3 AM, our security camera captured an unidentified individual walking through the residential area around La Cota Dr/Gaitano Dr, near Division St and Rancho Vista Blvd in Palmdale. The individual was seen approaching a vehicle parked in a driveway and attempting to check/open the vehicle door. The vehicle was locked, so they were not able to get inside. Because this occurred during the early morning hours and the individual may have been checking other vehicles in the surrounding neighborhood, we wanted to make nearby residents aware and encourage everyone to check their vehicles and review their security camera footage from around 2–3 AM. The person’s face is not clearly identifiable in the footage. For privacy, we are not sharing the exact residence or house number publicly. On Monday, August 10, 2026, investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department’s Rural Crime Task Force identified Angel Castro as the suspect who shot at a BNSF police officer from a moving train Monday night. An arrest warrant for attempted murder was issued and the investigation continued. On Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at about 4:30 p.m., while conducting an operation in the Cajon Pass, investigators from the Rural Crime Task Force, with the assistance of San Bernardino Police Department, located Castro, along with four coconspirators, travelling in a vehicle in San Bernardino. A traffic stop was conducted, and all five suspects were detained. During a search of the vehicle, tools used for burglarizing trains were located inside. Castro was arrested for attempted murder, cargo theft and conspiracy to commit a crime. Jorge Sarmiento Ochoa, Miguel Humberto Grajeda Carrizos, Jesus Jose Grajeda and Cesar Geovanny Grajeda Medina were arrested for conspiracy, cargo theft, and possession of burglary tools. All suspects were booked at the Central Detention Center where they remain in custody. This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information related to this case is asked to contact Rural Crimes Task Force at 909-387-8400. BNSF officers encountered individuals suspected of burglarizing rail cars and officers attempted to deter the activity. During the incident, a suspect fired a handgun in the direction of a BNSF officer. The officer was not struck or injured. The train continued northbound before eventually stopping in the Summit Valley area. Deputies and BNSF officers established a perimeter around the train and, with assistance from Sheriff’s Aviation, and personnel from the Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Division (SED), conducted a search of rail cars believed to have been entered. No suspects were located during the search. Several vehicles and individuals encountered in the surrounding area were investigated and determined to be unrelated to the incident. No deputies or BNSF officers were injured. The investigation is ongoing and the Sheriff’s Rural Crimes Task Force has assumed the investigation.
