BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A man accused of driving drunk in a fatal crash in Rosamond pleaded no contest to a manslaughter charge this week.
Reynaldo Guadalupe Garcia faces six years in prison at his sentencing in March, prosecutors said. He pleaded no contest Wednesday to vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
California Highway Patrol says Garcia was driving a Ford Edge west on Rosamond Boulevard approaching 35th Street West at 8:38 p.m. Erika Renee Olmedo was stopped in a Honda Civic in the southbound left turn lane of 35th Street.
Olmedo entered the intersection on a green arrow and the SUV — running a red light — plowed into her car, according to CHP. She was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital and pronounced dead early the next day.
A CHP officer arrested Garcia at the scene after conducting field sobriety tests.
