FATAL MOTORCYCLE CRASH – ANGELES FOREST HIGHWAY

ANGELES FOREST — A motorcyclist was killed Sunday afternoon after crashing off Angeles Forest Highway near mile marker 16.68, approximately a quarter-mile south of the Monte Cristo Fire Station.

Los Angeles County Fire Department crews were dispatched at 1:37 p.m. for an expanded traffic collision. According to dispatch traffic, first-arriving units located a red BMW motorcycle approximately 300 feet down an embankment in the brush. Crews initially were unable to locate the rider and requested aircraft to assist with the search.

Radio traffic indicated the motorcycle had gone over the side of the roadway and was leaking fuel. Firefighters, Urban Search and Rescue personnel, and Sheriff's Search and Rescue teams responded to the scene.

The California Highway Patrol later took over the investigation and classified the incident as a fatal traffic collision. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner was requested to the scene to recover the victim.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
