Fatal Traffic Crash on 170th Street East, North of Avenue P

On January 1, 2026, at approximately 6:53 a.m., a fatal traffic crash occurred on 170th Street East, north of Avenue P. Preliminary investigation indicates a 21-year-old, Lake Los Angeles man allowed his 2004 Chevrolet to drift off the roadway and strike a utility pole. The driver the sole occupant in the vehicle, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

Antelope Valley Area California Highway Patrol (CHP) investigators determined the driver was not wearing a seatbelt, and alcohol may have been a factor in the colision.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. For additional information regarding the deceased, please contact the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office at (323) 343-0512.

This traffic crash remains under investigation by Officer K. Martinez of the CHP, Antelope Valley Area. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the CHP Antelope Valley Area office at (661) 743-6060 during business hours, or the Los Angeles Traffic Management Center at ([323) 259-3200 after hours

The CHP reminds all motorists of the critical importance of always wearing a seatbelt and ensuring all passengers are properly restrained. Seatbelts significantly reduce the risk of fatal and serious injuries in traffic colisions and choosing not to drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs protects every road user.
