Jayden Toralba, age 25, has been found guilty of a domestic violence related assault against a former romantic partner.
A Kern County Jury convicted Toralba of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, criminal threats, domestic violence, false imprisonment and felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. The jury also found true allegations that Toralba personally used a firearm in the commission of the offenses, along with additional aggravating factors.
The case was prosecuted by Deputy DA Jamila Ha.
On the evening of February 15, 2024, Toralba and the victim became involved in a verbal dispute that escalated when Toralba assaulted the victim with a semiautomatic firearm. Immediately after, Toralba held the firearm to the victim’s head and threatened to kill her and her family. Toralba then struck the victim in the face and stomach, multiple times. He proceeded to use the victim’s cell phone to record her following the assault, during which he had urinated on her and was observed spitting on her in the video. When the victim attempted to leave the bedroom, Toralba prevented her from doing so by pushing her away from the door and choking her. Minutes later, Toralba left the residence with the firearm but returned shortly thereafter and concealed the firearm inside a duffle bag containing his personal belongings. Officers with the Bakersfield Police Department subsequently made contact with the victim and recovered the firearm.
DA Zimmer commented; “Toralba’s actions were deeply disturbing and completely inexcusable. Everyone deserves to feel safe in a romantic relationship, and today’s outcome sends a clear message that those who threaten that safety, will be held accountable.”
Sentencing is set for March 12, 2026 where Toralba faces up to 20 years in prison.
