Just wanted to make people aware of a possible scam. Friday night at approximately 6:45 pm, a young male knocked on our door. When asked what he wanted, he said that he wanted to inspect our electrical meter for damage or tampering. When I asked who he was with, he replied, “the state” and asked to see the meter again. I asked for ID. He flipped a white badge that was hanging from his belt at me. When I said that it wasn’t an ID since it had no name or insignia on it, he wasn’t getting access. He then threatened that he would send more people over until we complied. I told him to leave. My husband then asked him to see his ID again to take a picture of it. The man ran to a neighbor’s yard & hid. We called the sheriffs but they couldn’t send anyone out. We found the man walking out of our tract, headed south on 5th E and then east on Ave S towards Sierra Hwy. About 20 minutes later, another young man was at our door (camera) but we had left.
The young man in question was about 25yrs old, 5’9, 180 pounds with black curly hair wearing black rimmed glasses. He was wearing a beige polo shirt with a black insignia on the left chest area that was illegible, beige shorts with white knee socks, white tennis shoes & a black belt.
I confirmed with SoCal Edison that there are no inspections of equipment that are done by State employees. Those are done strictly by SCE employees or contractors with proper notice & ID.
I don’t know if you’ll post this or not but it was very weird & residents need to be aware of possible scams. We reported the whole incident to SCE
