On March 15, 2026, at approximately 1:29 p.m., Lancaster Station deputies responded to the 23300 block of East Avenue M, Lancaster, regarding a shots fired call. The caller stated a male Hispanic adult wearing a black tank top was shooting an assault rifle at neighbors. The male was later identified as John Doe. John Doe’s name will not be released at this time pending next-of-kin notification.
Deputies arrived on scene and were flagged down by three victims who reported Doe had fired a shotgun at them. Two victims were struck by gunfire, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were treated at the scene. The victims stated that Doe fled on foot. Deputies relayed this information to an assisting airship, which located Doe in a nearby fenced property. Deputies responded to Doe’s location and observed him standing behind a travel trailer. Doe produced a handgun and fired multiple rounds at the deputies, resulting in a deputy-involved shooting.
While still armed with the handgun, Doe retreated to a makeshift building within the fenced property. Shortly after, Doe emerged from the doorway of the makeshift building, and a second deputy-involved shooting occurred.
Doe was struck by gunfire and fell to the ground. Deputies coordinated a tactical approach and rendered medical aid to Doe pending the arrival of Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel. Doe was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.
No deputies or other persons were injured during the deputy-involved shooting incident. One .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun and one 12-gauge pump action shotgun were recovered at the scene.
