Read moreMessage from Quartz Hill High School leadership regarding a possible student walk out on Friday, February 6th.
Evening Royals, Wednesday (2/4/26) you received a message via our Communications Department from Superintendent, Mr. Nehen regarding a student walkout. As noted, we are aware that some students may participate in a walkout in response to recent national immigration policies.
We want to be very clear that we do not endorse students leaving campus. Quartz Hill High School (QHHS) is fully committed to respecting our students’ First Amendment rights, including the right to peacefully protest. Even so, we are concerned about the potential risks to students who may leave the campus while unsupervised, and this is our primary student safety concern during this event. We do not have the capacity to provide supervision for students who choose to leave school grounds. Once a student leaves the campus perimeter, our school cannot ensure their safety or security.
After meeting with multiple students, we have provided students with the opportunity to peacefully express their concerns in a safe and supervised manner on campus while receiving support from counselors, campus supervisors, and administration. To that end, we have designated the football field as an on-campus gathering area so students may do so without disrupting the instructional environment.
Students who do not attend classes will be welcomed back into class when they return. Students who are not present in class will be marked appropriately for the periods they miss as is done with any regular school absence. We also want to reiterate that any demonstrations are student-led and are not organized or endorsed by QHHS. We encourage students to discuss their concerns with trusted adults. We also encourage your support in conversations with your students at home. We certainly encourage students to remain on campus and peacefully protest in the safe environment provided.
Thank you,
Principal Paramesvaran
