New Development in 2008 Cold Case
On November 25, 2008, Kern County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 18000 block of B Street in North Edwards, California, regarding a death investigation. Upon arrival, deputies located Thomas Charles Horton, age 78, deceased inside the residence. Homicide detectives assumed the investigation. After all available leads were exhausted, the case was ultimately classified as a cold case.
Nearly 17 years later, on October 11, 2025, David Angulo, age 35, was arrested for driving under the influence by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department (SBSD). During their investigation, SBSD deputies learned Angulo may have been connected to a prior homicide investigation. Angulo was later released on the DUI charge.
SBSD investigators contacted the Kern County Sheriff’s Office regarding the information they had obtained. KCSO homicide detectives confirmed the information was related to the 2008 Horton homicide, a case that had remained unsolved for more than a decade.
Through continued investigation, KCSO homicide detectives developed probable cause for the arrest of Angulo. With the assistance of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Angulo was arrested for the murder of Thomas Horton on October 17, 2025. He remained in SBSD custody until January 16, 2026, when he was transferred to the custody of the Kern County Sheriff’s Office.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to pursuing justice for victims and their loved ones and will continue working collaboratively with partner agencies to bring resolution to cold cases.
