Two-year-old Child Gains Access to Gun Inside Home in Highland and Fatally Shoots Himself

DATE: July 16, 2026, at about 5:27 p.m.

INCIDENT: PC 273A (A) – Child Abuse Causing Great Bodily Injury or Death

LOCATION: 6900 Block of Victoria Avenue, Highland, CA

SUSPECT 1: Jamaria Cobb, 20-year-old Resident of Highland

SUSPECT 2: Armand Bright, 52-year-old Resident of Highland

VICTIM: Two-year-old Male

SUMMARY: On Thursday, July 16, 2026, at about 5:27 p.m., deputies in Highland were dispatched to a residence on Victoria Street for a two-year-old child who had been shot. Deputies arrived at the location and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on the child. Emergency medical personnel responded and transported the child to the hospital where he died shortly after.

The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division – Homicide and Crimes Against Children Details also responded and assumed the investigation. Investigators determined the child gained access to a gun hidden between two seat cushions on a couch and shot himself. The child’s mother, Jamaria Cobb, and her boyfriend, Armand Bright, were inside the residence when the shooting occurred.

A second child inside the home was taken by Child and Family Services (CFS). Cobb and Bright were both arrested for PC 273A(A) – Child Abuse Causing Great Bodily Injury or Death and remain in custody at the Central Detention Center on $1,350,000 bail.
