On July 22, 2026, deputies of the Kern County Sheriff's Office Mojave and Rosamond substations responded to a sexual assault investigation in Mojave, California. During the investigation, deputies learned that a suspect had entered a business where he physically assaulted a 70-year-old female before sexually assaulting her. Deputies reviewed video surveillance and were able to identify the suspect in this assault as Shamari Taylor, age 34. Approximately two hours later, deputies located and detained Taylor, who was subsequently booked at the Lerdo facility for charges related to the assault and sexual assault and is being held without bail pending court. The victim was transported to a local area hospital, where she was treated for several injuries and later released
