On October 5, 2016, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Sergeant Steve Owen was killed in the line of duty while responding to a burglary in progress in Lancaster.
Sergeant Owen, 53, was confronted and shot by the suspect. Despite the efforts of fellow deputies and medical personnel, he succumbed to his wounds later that evening.
Sergeant Owen dedicated his life to serving his community and protecting others. In addition to his assignment at Lancaster Station, he served with the Sheriff’s Mounted Enforcement Detail.
Today, we remember Sergeant Owen’s courage, commitment, and sacrifice. We also remember the family, friends, and colleagues who continue to carry his memory forward.
