On Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at approximately 8:07 a.m., CHP Bakersfield area units received multiple reports of a multi-vehicle traffic crash blocking all lanes of eastbound State Route 58, east of Tower Line Road.

Multiple CHP units responded to the scene, along with Kern County Fire and emergency medical services. Due to the number of involved parties, a mass-casualty/trauma response was initiated. The CHP Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) was requested to assist. 43 vehicles were involved in this crash. Investigators believe weather may have been a factor. Witnesses reported extremely dense fog in the area, with visibility estimated between 50 to 60 feet. Hall Ambulance transported 9 people to local hospitals. Their injuries range from minor to major with no fatalities. Traffic lanes of SR-58 were closed into the late evening hours for this investigation.

CHP reminds motorists to use extreme caution when driving in foggy conditions:

• Slow down and increase following distance • Use your low beams • Avoid sudden stops or lane changes • Delay or postpone travel

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the crash or has additional information is encouraged to contact the CHP Bakersfield area office.
