PRESCRIBED BURNS
PRESCRIBED BURNS SEPT. 29-30
The Air Force Wildland Fire Branch and Edwards Air Force Base Fire and Emergency Services will conduct prescribed burns Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 29–30, weather and smoke ventilation permitting. Ignitions may begin as early as 8:30 a.m. local time daily and will continue throughout each day. Other than visible smoke, no impact to public or the mission activities are anticipated.
The operations will proceed in two distinct phases:
► Day 1 (Tuesday, Sept. 29) — Piute Ponds: Crews will burn old, decaying vegetation to improve wildlife habitat and reduce wildfire fuel loads that could threaten Air Force operations. Piute Ponds will remain closed to recreational use throughout the day. Roadways affected by heavy smoke will be posted with caution signs reading: "Caution / Smoke Possible / Prescribed Fire Ahead."
► Day 2 (Wednesday, Sept. 30) — Branch Memorial Park & Housing Area C: Burning will shift to Branch Memorial Park and Housing Area C, near the intersection of Lancaster Boulevard and Forbes Avenue. Crews will burn cut vegetation piles, and smoke may be visible intermittently throughout the area. Ignition authorizations for both burn days will be coordinated with regional air quality management districts to minimize smoke impacts on local communities.
