A rainy Happy New years story from long ago
Written by Bob Alvis
The curved street in the middle is called Glenraven and this late 50’s early 60’s photo of east Lancaster at Ave J and Division had a bit of history related to it when the rain came .
The rain run off from the desert ran right up to the end of Glenraven at 2nd street and when we got the big rains Glenraven became a kind of poor mans water park as the local kids and teenagers would float down the street in small boats , kayaks , innertubes or anything that they could get to float !
I believe it was Eric Gisien that lived on Glenraven that managed to set the record for the longest ride in a raft as he ended up on Division Street! Or at least that’s the story I heard LOL!
Rainstorms were cheap entertainment for the valley youth back in those days and many memories were made riding the white-water rapids on Glenraven street here in Lancaster!
Stay dry and be safe people and please don’t try this today as it’s a totally different world we live in !!
