Human Bone Discovery Prompts Homicide Investigation in Victorville

INCIDENT: Found Human Bone

LOCATION: Terminal end of Abbey Lane near Stoddard Wells Road, Victorville

DECEDENT(S): Unknown

SUMMARY: On Monday, January 26, 2026, it was reported that a possible human bone was found while the reporting party was walking his dog near the terminal end of Abbey Lane near Stoddard Wells Road, Victorville.

Victorville deputies responded to the scene and located the bone. The Coroner's Division was notified and responded, collecting bone fragments for physical examination. On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, the Coroner’s Division confirmed that the bone located was human.

The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division – Homicide Detail also responded to the location and assumed the investigation. On Friday, January 30, 2026, along with the Coroner's Division a search was conducted in the area around where the bone was located. Several additional bones and bone fragments were located and recovered. It is believed that most of the recovered bones are animal bones. An autopsy will be conducted, and the forensic anthropologist will determine which bones are human. Additional information is pending DNA results for the identification of the remains.
