Homicide Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department are seeking assistance with information regarding the murder of Elena “Rae” Kazanes. On Thursday, February 19, 2026, Elana “Rae” Kazanes, 40 years old, was found deceased in the area of 140th Street East and East Avenue E, in the city of Lake Los Angeles.

Detectives are seeking the public’s assistance and asking anyone with information to please contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide Bureau Sgt. Giovanni Lampignano or Sgt. Marc Boskovich at (323) 890-5500.

During the incident, the suspects used a stolen vehicle to force entry into the business, where numerous firearms were stolen before the suspects fled the scene. Deputies and detectives responded to the scene and conducted the initial investigation. The investigation was subsequently assumed by deputies assigned to the Hesperia Gang Investigations Team, who conducted an extensive follow-up investigation into the burglary. As a result of the investigation, deputies identified seven suspects involved in the burglary. The suspects were found to be known gang members and associates from the cities of Hesperia and San Bernardino. Throughout the investigation, deputies obtained and served multiple search warrants at various residences throughout San Bernardino County. All seven suspects were successfully located, and investigators recovered evidence linking the suspects to the burglary. All adult suspects were arrested and booked into the High Desert Detention Center and West Valley Detention Center on various charges to include, VC 10851(a)-Vehicle Theft, PC 459- Burglary, PC 182(a)(1)- Conspiracy to Commit a Crime, PC 32- Accessory to a Crime, and PC 186.22(a)- Participate in a Criminal Street Gang. The juvenile suspects were arrested and taken to San Bernardino County Juvenile Hall. The investigation remains active as deputies continue to pursue additional leads. On July 15, the CHP received a report of a road rage incident involving a Ford and a Nissan on Interstate 10 near Live Oak Canyon Road. During the incident, the driver of the Ford allegedly pulled alongside the Nissan and pointed a handgun at its occupants. The victims reported the incident to CHP and provided investigators with the Ford’s license plate number. CHP officers searched the area but could not locate the Ford. Inland Division Investigative Services Unit investigators later identified the driver as Robert Valdez, 52, of Yucaipa, Calif. On Aug. 4, investigators located Valdez and his vehicle in Redlands, conducted a high-risk enforcement stop, and arrested him without incident. During a search of the Ford, investigators recovered a revolver, additional ammunition, and speed loaders. Later that day, investigators executed a search warrant at Valdez’s residence, where they recovered approximately 20 illegal firearms, including assault rifles, AR-15-style rifles, long-range rifles, shotguns, and suppressed handguns. Investigators also seized approximately 20,000 rounds of ammunition, including armor-piercing rounds, multiple firearm suppressors, and approximately 15 firearm milling fixtures used to illegally manufacture and modify AR-15-style lower receivers. Valdez was booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department's Central Detention Center on charges including brandishing a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of an assault weapon, and possession of a suppressor. “This investigation demonstrates our officers’ commitment to protecting the public by identifying dangerous offenders and removing illegal weapons from our communities.
